Kairos for "Fuck the Draft" Photo
Kiyoshi
Kuromiya’s “Fuck the Draft” poster was a
very iconic anti-war poster. It was created in 1968 and was part of the April
12 1968 issue of the Berkely Barb. The Berkely Barb was an underground newspaper
form California and was a very influential counterculture newspaper that covered
the anti-war movement, and civil rights movement as well as social changes of
the time. This poster came out in the height of the Vietnam War. At this point
people were getting extremely fed up with the war and just wanted the war to be
over. Mothers were tired of having their
sons being drafted, and a lot of people were confused as to why we were still
sending soldiers to Vietnam. Young men began to protest the draft because people
began seeing videos of Vietnam and they did not want to commit the atrocities they
were seeing. This post represents a lot of what was going on in the time and
could have a lot of people relate.
